It’s simple to use and many lesbians have created their own meetup groups and grown a community where nothing existed before. I started a group in Austin, TX called the Austin Lesbian Coffee House. It has over 1500 members and 20 or so event planners that keep it rocking and rolling.

I moved to Austin in March of 2009. When I started the Coffee House meetup in April 2009 there were only two other LGBT groups in the area. I had no idea where or how to find lesbians let alone get around in the city and I just wasn’t going to sit around and do nothing. Now there must be 20 various groups. That’s how meetup.com has exploded the LGBT social scene.

I’ve been involved with multiple meetup groups and each one has a different slant but all have been a way to meet lesbians for fun, community and dating. Some groups’ focus exclusively on dating, others focus exclusively on having fun and socializing, though we know everywhere lesbians are hanging out together dating eventually happens.

How To Get Started With Meetup

Here’s the deal. Open up a Google search, type in “lesbian meetup” and then your area. If you don’t get an immediate result, try searching by “lgbt meetup” plus your geographic area. If you live in a very small town, you may have to use a larger city or town in your area or state.

Additionally, search for “lgbt professional associations” as another way to find where your community is hanging out. Get creative and think about other ideas for groups in your area or in your profession.

You should get multiple results. Don’t stop yet. Now I want you to join the groups you find. Even if they don’t seem a total match, join and see what’s really going on with the meetup group.

Most of the time it doesn’t cost very much to join and often it’s free to join a group.

Once you’ve joined check out the calendar and the discussion board. See what’s going on and if there are any meetups that you want to attend. When you see one you like RSVP yes. Then go! Do it! Live your lesbian life out loud.

How Does Lesbian Dating and Meetup Make Dating Magic?

Where does lesbian dating come in to play? Well when you’re attending events, you get to meet lots of women and often single women. Like you, they are out looking for fun, community and often a relationship.

The safe atmosphere created by a meetup group means you get to know that lovely lesbian and have a reason to talk to her because you both attended the same event. It’s such a great way to navigate the social protocol of the lesbian world.

One more important thing to remember is that once you’ve attended a few meetups and you’ve gotten to know a few women, including the organizer or event planner, make an offer to host an event.
